Studio Update #3
March 22, 2009
This time we went into the Slaughterhouse for Vocals and Back Up Vocals/Shouts. Dano was ready as he could be. The chap has been taking vocal lessons for the past year and it seemed to have really payed off. He ripped the vocal harmonies like Celine herself would’ve done. Singing melodies over his Main Vocal tracks, he tore it up. Here is a pic of Dano.

Dano sipping some H2O
Later on we had a Dano, John, Johnny, Walker, Simon from Permanent Bastards and Gid from Phat Bastard join us for back ups. They came in with a mission to tear up the vocal booth. A great job done by each person and we thank them all for coming out. Shortly after we all shared some high class beer together (Laker Honey).
A video will be up real soon of some of the crazyness that happened this day!! Check back later today.

Studio Update #2
March 13, 2009
With drums already recorded, Crookedhook went into the studio again and this time we recorded the bass and guitar. I was up first and having Mikey lay down killer drum tracks, I would have to follow up with some serious bass lines. So I called to the “Bass Gods”.

Mitch Girio responded. All the questions that I once had were answered. I layed down the bass tracks like nobodies business. I was powered by coffee and Samosa. I felt really comfortable in Mitches new studio “The Slaughterhouse”.
Next up was Mark on Guitar. He nailed down his guitar tracks amazingly. He was powered mainly by Coffee and Banana Bread. Here is a picture of Mark recording the acoustic guitar tracks.

While Mark was recording Mike was giving Mark massages, I was feeding him Chocolate Almonds, Big Feet and Hot Lips and Dano was serenating him. Mark was on his A Game. Mitch was fueled by Tea and Chocolate Almonds. We did some more recording then had a Subway dinner. We recorded til the sun came down. The Hook have been so busy recording lately that we haven’t had many shows. So, I have been taking some time to book some shows and we will be back on the road again real soon playing everywhere. This weekend we are going in once more to record Vocals and Back up Vocals. Keep checking back for updates. Oh yeah, check our Myspace Blog and read Dano’s point of view on the Studio Updates.

WWMD?!
March 8, 2009
I (Dave) just got back from the studio with “the wizard” himself, Mitch Girio! We recorded bass today, ate some Jerk chicken and got some extremely huge news for Crookedhook!! Unfortunately we can’t release the information to the general public just yet but let me tell you we have some big stuff in store for you!! The bass went great in the studio today. We got a badass tone for the bass. Apparently my bassline in “Ends Meet” is Jackson 5-ish! Which was a huge compliment since I always dug the bass in Jackson 5. Mitch always gives great suggestions for all members in our band but since Mitch is a Pro Bassist himself he always has primo advice for me and I appreciate it all. What Would Mitch Do? That is the question I find myself asking myself lately. It is amazing to work with Mitch and we can’t wait to head back into the studio again tomorrow. Who knows what we will eat tomorrow? Toronto has some crazy restaurants. We had the Real Jerk tonight which was irie. Keep checking back, we have studio update #2 coming soon with some video’s.
Studio Update #1
February 28, 2009
We went in for the first day of recording and of course we are recording with Mitch Girio again, he is the king. Literally. We were told we were recording at the Slaughterhouse which is in Toronto. This is Mitches new studio which we haven’t gone to yet. When we got there we noticed there were a whole bunch of drains with sloping concrete. Then Mitch told us it was in fact a real Slaughterhouse at one point. We all found that pretty crazy! The studio was really comfortable. There was couches, soundproofing, carpets, pictures all over and overall it seemed like an awesome sudio! Plus, there is any food or coffee shop you can imagine in the area.

Mitch Girio!
Once we were all set up we recorded Mike’s drums. He had just got all his wisdom teeth yanked but luckily they didn’t yang a bit of wisdom from him. He owned those drum and amazed us, as always.

Mike D !
We finished all of Mike’s drums and we are really excited about this new EP! Our drummer Mike is actually half Canadian/half drum machine. As Dano said in the Myspace Blog, he set the bars really high for the rest of us. Until next weekend, Practice Practice!! Keep checking back for updates because we have some really huge news coming up! Peace
-Dave & Crookedhook
Recording begins this weekend!
February 20, 2009
We are heading into the studio this weekend to start recording our new EP “Breathe Pollution” with Mitch Girio. There will be five killer new songs from Crookedhook, which we will be releasing on Sore Loser Records. The Sore Loser Records website is set to launch in April. In the mean time you can check out their Myspace, they have some really cool bands. http://www.myspace.com/soreloserrecords
We have recently gotten involved on earnityourself.com which is a community of DIY bands from all over the world. We have met some relly wicked bands. The show last night…
February 8, 2009

Last night we played at The Salty Dawg with some great acts. Fabrizio’s cousin Sarah played an acoustic set to start off the night. She did a great job of entertaining the crowd! Gin and Juice were supposed to play next but Juice lost her voice at the FU Awards a couple nights before. We are looking forward to seeing them play next time. Up next were one of my favourite local bands and friends, Permanent Bastards. They have got some awesome new songs that we got to check out for the first time in full swing with their new drummer, who ripped it! Definitely check out their new tunes on their Myspace! You wont be dissapointed. It was also our good pal Brian Girardo’s birthday so we played him a birthday song. Thanks to him for coming out along with everyone else who came out and showed their support! We were happy to see people were digging our new Crookedhook hats! Mike D did a great job with doing the sound on short notice, thanks to him!
Keep checking back for updates!

Thanks Newmarket!
December 21, 2008
We are always glad to play shows in Newmarket. Last night was probably one of the best shows we have had there! It was a Semi Formal night at Tomboo’s and everyone was dressed up. All of the members in our band were hyped to check out Stack and Large for the first time. They were fucking awesome! Check them out if you get a chance. We also had the pleasure of sharing the stage with The Sick Needs. It was our third time playing with them and they definitely nailed down a great set. The sound in the venue has improved since the last time we were at Tomboo’s. Thanks to Fraser for doing sound! Thanks to Josh for making the show happen! Thanks to all our friends, family and all the Tombooze crew that are always at the shows supporting the scene. See you all soon.

How Crookedhook was created…
November 1, 2008

Alright we are going to go back in time here, back when Crookedhook wasn’t around. About 3 years ago I had received this hand drawn pic from from a buddy of mine name Dano. I was bandless at the time. Our high school band Grand Skam that Mike and I were in just broke up. That is where this pics above is from, it’s me at the Open Eye Festival. Dano was playing in a Punk band called Not a Damn Day with another friend of ours named Mark. We had played shows together at a place called Cafe Oasis in Woodbridge. Mark and Dano’s band had just broke up at about the same time ours did. I was talking to Dano one night and we got on the subject of being down that we weren’t in a badass Punk band. We both decided that night that If Mike and I (Dave) were to team up with Dano and Mark, we would be unstoppable. Or we would be force that would be pretty damn hard to slow down. So we did it. The band got together and wrote our 1st demo “Rock or Walk”. We decided to name our band “Crookedhook”.
The Salty Dawg
October 26, 2008
We had showed up at the Salty Dawg expecting to be playing infront of a bunch of bikers. It turns out there were only a couple of bikers there and they were quite friendly. One asked if I needed a hand taking my bass amp to the back of the bar where his truck was (joking that he was going to steal it). I got a laugh out of that. There was a pretty good turn out considering it was just us playing. I counted 70 people!! Thanks to everyone who came out. We played the Happy Birthday song for Barfield which never seems to get old. We had Wendy and Greg from RockonBands out filming the show with some pro gear. Thanks! We will let you know when they post some stuff. Aside from Dano and I being sick as Dogs we still gave it our best and we all had a great time. Thanks to Renee for having us out. Apparently the Salty Dawg wants us back soon. So I am sure we will be back there rocking out and eating Jalepeno Poppers in no time. Unfortunately we had to miss out on True Trout’s last show ever (RIP). They were an awesome band and not many people play that old style of Punk anymore. They will be missed.
Down It Went…
October 18, 2008
We just finished filming our video for “Down It Goes” and we had a blast! We would like to thank Jarrett Ford, Rob Casmire, Graydon Stranks, Megan Thompson-Walker, Adam Battarino and everyone who came out to the video! We shots some really cool scenes. It is going to be an awesome video! Stay tuned!

“Down it Goes” Video Shoot
October 17, 2008
We are doing a video for “Down it Goes”. Our good buddy Rob Casmire is filming the video and our other pal Jarrett Ford will be doing the Editing and putting it all together. We have already done the first day of filming and today we will complete the video. We are very excited that we could do a video for this song. Aside from that we also have a Halloween show in Klienburg at the Salty Dawg on October 25th. Free Show, 19+.
Crookedhook Blog!
September 19, 2008
So we switched the Crookedhook Forum to the Crookedhook Blog! First off, I would like to thank all of the people who have helped us out in the past couple of years. We have met a lot of cool people, bands and a bunch of great promoters along the way. Our friends and family have supported us a lot which is always appreciated. Also, thanks to everyone that came out to the Edge show last weekend! Aside from me destroying the Edge elevator, it was an awesome night! If you missed the show there are a few videos up on Youtube.
The question that I have been asked the most lately is “What the hell has Crookedhook been up to?” The answer is writing our second full length album. We have a bunch of new songs on the go and we are constantly adding to the list. We plan to release it early in 2009. Keep checking the Blog, we will have detailed updates on what Crookedhook has been up to!!
Check out “Ends Meet” live at 102.1 the Edge:
